About Nikmel
Back in the 80’s while in NYC, Nik Meller started using NIKMEL to sign his artwork. Then, while doing a 3-Year Furniture Makers Apprenticeship in Munich, Meller would sign the pieces he created with NIKMEL. He next worked with Antique Furniture Restorer Cornelis de Kemp in Munich using traditional methods restoring Biedermeier and Empire pieces.
Meller next moved to Boston where he completed the 2-year Cabinet & Furniture Making program at the North Bennet Street School. Here he built Sheraton, Queen Anne, Chippendale, and Biedermeier pieces, all signed with NIKMEL. During this time several of Meller’s pieces were recognized and published in Home Furniture Magazine, American Woodworker Magazine and Fine Woodworking Design Book 7. Meller’s Sheraton Sideboard was voted 2nd best piece built by a student in America.
For the next 20 years Meller submerged himself into the Los Angeles furniture manufacturing world. Here he worked on the first Starwood Hotels and a multitude of Las Vegas Hotel new-builds and remodels. Meller’s passion for fine furniture brought him back to high end residential design where he spent several years at J. Robert Scott. It was during this time that he discovered a void in the industry. So in 2005 NIKMEL Inc. – Furniture Development for Designers and Manufacturers was created. In the past 15+ years NIKMEL has cemented its place in the world of residential and hospitality furniture as a reliable go-to for designers and manufacturers for various services. Creating +20,000 drawings for designers and manufacturers of upholstery, case goods and lighting for 1000’s of projects ranging from the MGM-Macau to the Hotel Zoo in Berlin and 1000’s more in between.
Over the last decade, Meller has also designed a yearly collection of crystal recognition awards after being introduced to and partnering with one of the largest crystal award recognition wholesalers in the US. This led to the worldwide available NIK MELLER COLLECTION of Crystal Recognition Awards and the NIKMEL COLLECTION of Crystal Drinkware.
Meller has had the good fortune of having found his passion early on and continues to expand and grow NIKMEL with a focus on building relationship after relationship.
The NIKMEL motto is very simple: “We only draw what we can explain.”… and we like to have fun.
